European Voluntary Service (EVS)

What is it?

The European Voluntary Service is a unique opportunity for motivated and curious young people aged 17 to 30 to volunteer in an organization abroad. No specific technical or professional skills are required—only the desire to experience another culture and make a difference in the host country.

The program provides information and support throughout the process, although it does not offer direct internships. If you are interested, get in touch with an accredited organization to start your volunteering experience in Europe.

Where is it?

Abroad, you can meet young people from other countries, have fun while helping the community. Although you don´t earn money, volunteering is a rewarding experience, both personally and culturally, that can be very helpful for your career future. You can volunteer in human rights, environmental, sustainability, social and cultural programs, and more.

Frequently asked questions

The tasks assigned to a volunteer depend on the field of work of the host organization and should align as closely as possible with the volunteer's interests and profile.

It is important to note that an EVS position is not an internship but is designed to support the personal development of the young person involved. For this reason, volunteers may provide additional support and even carry out their own projects.

Volunteers work between 30 and 38 hours per week, and under no circumstances should volunteering replace paid employment.

In an EVS project, two distinct roles can be undertaken by participating organizations:

  • Sending Organizations (SO): They assist volunteers in preparing for their EVS stay, support them upon their return, and maintain contact throughout the program.
  • Host Organizations (HO): Also known as receiving organizations, they are responsible for managing EVS activities on-site. They involve volunteers in the organization's activities, provide accommodation and meals, and ensure they receive personal support from a mentor.
