Description of the project

Bridges of Received at Reus: a project to facilitate the integration of families newcomers

During the months of September at November, Reus's city has received the development of the project Bridges of Received, an initiative furthered to facilitate the desegregation and educational of recent immigrated families arrivals.

The project has been designed with the aim to accompany the families at his first months at the city, a key period for the adaptation, especially at the case of the girls at school age. Through a pool of free activities, has worked to foster the ken of the Catalan tongue, the surroundings and the community resources, as well as to favour the creation of social ties.

A program structured at three fields of performance

The activities have organised at three principal blocs that have permitted to accost of integral way the process of received:

Welcome and initial orientation

They have realised informative sessions addressed at the families to announce the educational system, the municipal kicks and the available resources at the city. These sessions have facilitated a first approach at the surroundings and have resolved habitual doubts at the moment of arrival.

Besides, they have organised meetings with families mentors and visits guided by Reus, that have permitted at the participants discover the principal cultural rooms, educational and social of the township.

Workshops of tongue and culture

One of the central axes of the project has been the promotion of the use of the Catalan at daily contexts. At this sense, have carried out workshops of oral Catalan with a participatory methodology and adapted at the necessities of the families.

Simultaneously, they have developed cultural activities and intergeneracionals, like workshops of cuisine, traditional games and contacontes, that have favoured the cultural exchange and the cohesion among the participants.

Link school-family

The project also has posed special emphasis at the account among the families and the educational system. They have organised themed sessions on school coexistence, familiar turnout and communication with the educational centres.

Likewise, they have created rooms of meeting with professionals of the educational field and with other families, fostering the trust and the implication at the school life.

Resulted of the project

The project has had the active turnout of more of 25 families, that have assisted regularly at the activities programmed.

Among the principal results, it is necessary to excel the improvement of the oral competence at Catalan of the persons participants, as well as an increase of his turnout at school and community activities.

Equally, it has observed a cut of the sentiment of isolation and an improvement of the emotional welfare, especially among the girls, thanks to the creation of new social ties.

OpenEurope has had a subsidy of the Deputation of Tarragona for co-finance the activity, of a total of 7.676€.
